Ennis Rules the World

Aug 18, 07:53 AM

Jessica Ennis (Sheffield) took the World Heptathlon gold medal in a final session of the heptathlon which she had led from the first even. Her final score a personal best of 6731 moved her to second on the UK all time lists.

Her performance over the two days was brilliant, and her composure under pressure exemplorary.

The win was a culmination of hard graft from both Ennis and her coach Toni Minichiello, and the work of her physio Alison Rose – the team that brought her back from a serious foot injury in the shape to add a World Championship gold to her medal cabinet.

At just 23years old Ennis believes she has so much more to come:

“I am so excited – I simply cannot believe I am the World Champion, she said. “In the competition I threw a pb in the shot and all my other disciplines were solid, so I believe I have room to improve and definitely break the British record.”
