As the 2007 European Indoor Champion and World Championship Silver medallist over 400m, Nicola was the Britain’s most decorated athlete of 2007 winning bronze medals in the 4x400m at both the European Indoor Championships and World Outdoor Championships in addition to her two individual medals.
Nicola is the Commonwealth Record Holder over 400m indoors and is one of Britain’s brightest medal hopes for 2012.
Nicola began to demonstrate her outstanding ability as a teenager but it was in 2006 that she burst into the public eye when she smashed the 17 year old National Indoor Championship record over 400m. Also an accomplished 400m hurdler, Nicola now concentrates on the flat event due to a back problem which restricts her training over the hurdles.

Whist at school Nicola enjoyed playing all the sports on offer and was in nearly every school team including netball, hockey, basketball, tennis and more. But athletics has always been her main love. She spent four years at Loughborough University graduating with a degree in Sport & Exercise Science.
A truly dedicated athlete now based in London and coached by Tony Lester, one of the UK’s most successful coaches, Nicola’s attention to detail ensures her lifestyle is geared to getting the most out of each and every training session which will ultimately show through in her race results. She is careful to rest as much as possible between training sessions, and enjoys going to the cinema and out for meals with friends. A fan of most sports, she particularly likes watching gymnastics, swimming, football and rugby when the national teams are competing on TV.
Nicola ambitions are evident; “My ultimate goal is most definitely Olympic Gold. The Olympics are the biggest occasion for the sport of athletics and to win a gold medal in my own country at the 2012 Olympic Games is something I’ve dreamt about on many occasions”.
Nicola has appeared on BBC’s Question of Sport, and on Children’s TV news show Sportsround.
