Middle Distance Runner from Scotland.

Laura Muir (born on 9 May 1993) is a middle distance runner, 800m, 1500m and 3000m, based in Glasgow and coached by Andy Young.

Young spotted her talent when she started at Glasgow University.

Since her breakthrough into senior ranks in 2013 she has left a trail of broken European and British records behind her – becoming one of Britain’s most exciting new talents.

In 2014 she clocked 4.00.07 to break Yvonne Murray’s Scottish 1500m record and in 2016 broke Kelly Holmes British record that had stood for 12 years (3.57.49). She went on to take a further 2 seconds off this time later in August at the Paris Diamond league to set a new British record of 3:55.22.

She won the Diamond league title in 2016.

2017 has started with a bang – she has set a European record in the 5000m and 3000m and broken the British 1000m record.

Not only is she hugely talented on the track, but Laura is turning her love of animals into a career and is a Veterinary student at Glasgow University – juggling her studies with her athletics schedule.
